All MLC 2026 matches will be held across three venues. Bear in mind that venue conditions can influence each team's performance. Each venue has different scoring patterns, pitch pace and boundary dimensions. The three venues are:
Grand Prairie Stadium (Grand Prairie) - Hosts round 1 and round 4 matches
Oakland Coliseum (Oakland) - Hosts round 2 and playoff matches
Knight Riders Cricket Ground (Pomona) - Hosts round 3 matches
How the MLC 2026 season format and playoffs work
All 6 cricket teams in the MLC compete over a double round-robin format, playing 10 matches each.
At the end of the regular MLC schedule, the top 4 teams advance to the playoffs. The 1st and 2nd-place teams from the round-robin stage advance to the qualifier match, while the 3rd and 4th-place teams compete in an eliminator match.
The winner of the qualifier match advances to the final. Meanwhile, the winner of the eliminator match faces the loser of the qualifier match in a challenger match. The winning team from the challenger progresses to the final to face the winner of the qualifier match and decide the MLC champion.
Teams competing in Major League Cricket 2026
MI New York - the defending champions
MI New York won their second MLC cricket title last season, defeating Washington Freedom by 5 runs in the last over. Throughout the group stage, they hadn’t looked like contenders at all, finishing with just 3 wins and 7 losses. However, they have a reputation for peaking during the playoffs, and that could make them a smart pick to win again this season.
This season, MI New York retained their key players such as Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, and Trent Boult. Meanwhile, they’ve added new talent, including overseas players like Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock, as well as Corey Anderson, in the domestic draft.
Texas Super Kings, LA Knight Riders, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas and Washington Freedom
Washington Freedom finished first in the group stage of the 2025 MLC season, with 8 wins and 2 losses. The 2024 champions were narrowly denied a consecutive title but will be back stronger in 2026. Their narrow loss in 2025 means they’re a betting favourite for this season.
Texas Super Kings finished 2nd in the group stage, winning 7 matches and losing 3. However, they suffered back-to-back losses in the playoffs to be sent home, but have been a consistent playoff contender since the MLC began.
The San Francisco Unicorns achieved the same record as the Texas Super Kings, but finished in 3rd place due to their slightly worse net run rate. They were defeated in the MI New York vs San Francisco eliminator match of the playoffs. They’re a strong performer in the league phase and finished runners-up in 2024.
The Seattle Orcas finished with a losing record last season but are looking to improve on their performances. They finished as runners-up in 2023.
The LA Knight Riders are part of the Knight Riders Group, which includes the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. They recently hired former West Indies cricketing legend Dwayne Bravo as head coach as they look to challenge this season.
